The Renew Massage

The Renew Massage (also known as a Deep Tissue Massage) is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. Renew Massage, done properly by a skilled professional, is NOT PAINFUL. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Renew Massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and those who have sustained physical injury or chronic pain conditions. The benefits of a Renew Massage is that it focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions. Common problem areas include: low back pain, limited mobility, problems with posture, recovery from an injury or a repetitive strain injury.

What to expect during a Renew Massage:

At the beginning of the massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prep the muscles. Then specific techniques are then applied which include stripping and friction. Stripping is deep, gliding pressure along the length of the muscle fibers using the elbow, forearm, knuckles, and thumbs. Friction is pressure applied across the grain of a muscle to release adhesions and realign tissue fibers.

How will I feel after a Renew Massage?

For your muscles, getting a Renew Massage is similar to doing a tough workout. Even though the massage increased the blood flow to those tight spots, they also got stretched and manipulated during the session, possibly causing tiny micro tears in the muscles along the way. During a massage, the therapist works to stretch, lengthen, and break up groups of muscles (commonly known as knots), possibly causing tiny micro tears in the muscle along the way. This is a normal function of massage and while it leads to more blood flow and healing to that area, it can also lead to that day-after tenderness!
